I am Assistant Professor (Docent) of Political Science at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow. I was previously an associate research professor (docent) and senior research fellow at the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. I received my PhD in Political Science from UW-Madison in 2015, an AM in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia from Harvard University in 2009, and a BA in German with a concentration in Linguistics from Grinnell College in 2005.
I am also a project manager for the V-Dem Project and a research fellow at the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development. My research interests include identity politics, separatism, survey research and latent variable modeling. I have conducted research in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
