I am an Associate Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen. I was previously Assistant Professor of Politics and Governance at the Higher School of Economics (2019-2022), and Associate Research Professor and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg (2015-2019). I received my PhD in Political Science from UW-Madison in 2015, an AM in Regional Studies: Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia from Harvard University in 2009, and a BA in German with a concentration in Linguistics from Grinnell College in 2005.
I am also Project Manager for Measurement and Methods at the V-Dem Project. My research interests include identity politics, separatism, survey research and latent variable modeling. I have conducted research in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
